HST Tax Exemptions for First Nations
December 16, 2010
Many of our retailers and business owners are
unaware that there is still a tax exemption for First Nations customers
when they are making purchases in local stores and business.
Effective September 1, 2010, Status Indians, Indian bands and councils
of an Indian band are entitled to an exemption from paying the 8%
Ontario component of the HST on qualifying property or services at the
point of sale.
This exemption is the same exemption First Nations customers received
before the HST came into effect.
The attached provinicial guide contains more information on who
qualifies, eligible exemptions and vendor responsibilities.
Help Support our Local Skating Clubs!
December 7, 2010
When it comes to local talent, Grey-Bruce has more than you can imagine of it in the sport of figure skating. For the fourth time, Celebration On Ice has made it’s way to Owen Sound for a December 19th performance. Not only does this performance enlist in a long cast of outstanding skaters, but this year also three local skaters will get their chance to showcase their skills. Part of the program is involving the local communities and three different skaters from different clubs will get a chance to perform. Each club had a difficult time selecting their skaters as the talent is outstanding in a number of individuals who live right here in our own communities. Owen Sound has selected Jessica Reid which was a process of drawing a name from a hat because the number of qualified skaters. Saugeen Shores Skating Club has given Grace Alvarez the opportunity to skate with a number of professionals. The third and final skating Club, Tara, has provided Laurissa Christie with the chance to showcase her skills to hundreds in attendance. A group of little and hardworking CanSkaters from Owen Sound will also steal your heart that afternoon!
What a privilege it will be for these three skaters to skate with 2010 Olympic Bronze Medallist & Olympic sweetheart Joannie Rochette, Gold Medallist David Pelletier & Jamie Sale, not to mention overall amazing skater and entertainer Kurt Browning. What more could these girls ask for? How about tons and tons of support the day of the performance? When they each take the ice at the Harry Lumley Bayshore to hear hundreds of fans cheering them on as they skate, jump and push themselves to deliver the best performance they possibly can. And to be able to hear afterwards what a great job they have done and how they have represented their clubs extremely well. I think it’s time to get behind our local skating clubs and show our support to these young and very talented skaters. I know I will have my ticket and will cheering as loud as I can when each skater gets announced… will you?
