From angling to paddling; hiking to biking…….Paisley Naturally!

April 19, 2011

Surrounded by the best Mother Nature has to offer, Paisley is an exciting destination for the outdoor enthusiast.

Dissecting the Heritage Village is the mighty Saugeen River where both warm and cold water fish species exist in this giant watershed. Once an important barge route, the Saugeen offers miles of solitude and unparalleled encounters with nature. Providing one of Ontario’s best trout and salmon runs, the Saugeen River’s naturally sheltered feeder streams and the area’s spring-fed lakes are also prime waters for brown trout, bass and pike.

Whether you are paddling or angling, the Saugeen treats the nature-lover to glimpses of Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Red Tail Hawks, Bald Eagles, wild turkey flocks, muskrats, beavers, a variety of turtles and one of the most critically endangered of all insects: the Hungerford’s Crawling Beetle.

Fortunately, Paisley connects to miles of all-purpose trails for all-season exercise and adventure. Bruce County has a multitude of trail experiences ranging from snowmobile trails, bike paths and walking trails that whisk the traveler along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay shorelines, through unique habitats of the Bruce Peninsula, to inland forests and waterways of Saugeen country. The rich natural diversity of Paisley’s surrounding countryside has been imprinted by a variety of human activities on the landscape, creating a tapestry of trail experiences just waiting for your arrival.

In addition to our expansive countryside, the town of Paisley is enveloped by acres of fertile agricultural land, productive sugar maple forests and vast and pastoral scenes of grazing beef cattle. An old-fashioned roadtrip along our bucolic country roads will provide the daytripper with a visual patchwork of crop-rich land and wide, open skies.

Chamber of Commerce Update.

April 13, 2011

The Business Retention and Expansion Program is in full swing. We have over 15 trained surveyors and another training session booked for Thursday April 21, for any more people in the community who would like to help out, even in a small way. We are hoping that this survey will provide us with information that will take Paisley to a new level in many areas. It is important that all business owners begin to really think about their opinions on hot issues. We will be giving every interviewee a copy of the survey about a week in advance of the interview so they can be prepared with their anwers and thus give an accurate thought. I think it is obvious that we need to consider how we are going to retain and expand business in our village.

The next Chamber meeting is on Tuesday April 19 at 7:30 in the Town Hall Council Chambers. We will not be totally focused on the BR&E at the next meeting as we are in a waiting period, waiting for the survey to be custom made for Paisley, so if there is anything else that we have been missing in the last month and a half, this is the window of opportunity. Please get on the agenda ASAP.

The 48 page brochure has been sent to the printer and it is stunning. Thanks to all the people who came together to create it and help pay for it. Especially to Jenn Harris who donated 250 hours of time to create it and to Paul Crysler who will help distribute it. This single document will improve the professional impression that Paisley leaves with 10,000 households across Ontario. It is a project superbly done.

Please remind all your customers and friends to subscribe to this website and if there is ANYTHING that needs to be improved as always please let me know. We were praised highly at the municipal council meeting on Monday for our website and village activity but let’s not stop there. We want the most informative and easiest-to-use site in the province. I count on your help to make it that way. Thanks to all who are constantly volunteering and helping to maintain and improve the village. Sandra
