Int.Women’s Day & Summerfolk Youth Showcase
February 22, 2012
Back Eddie’s will once again be hosting one of the 3 satellite locations for the Summerfolk Youth Showcase competition on March 18th. This event gives youth 21 and under a chance to show off their talents and vi for a spot on stage at Summerfolk. This event is open to the public but seats tend to fill up fast with family and friends of the competitors. More info can be obtained at Summerfolk’s website; www.summerfolk.org
Also on Sunday, March 4 a group of Paisley ladies is inviting all (that includes all ages and genders) interested in sharing thoughts, wisdoms, stories, poems, songs and jokes, etc about International Women’s Day to gather at Back Eddie’s from 2 pm on. Articles and goodies for a raffle table would be gratefully appreciated with the aim to raise a few dollars for our local women’s shelter. There will be snacks and refreshments. Bring a piece of cloth for multicultural representation of women(domestic, family, careers, relationships etc, etc). Think globally, act locally.
There will be the traditional gathering on the bridge on March 8th. This bridge gathering takes place all over the world on this day. For more information check out the web site www.internationalwomensday.com. Each year around the world, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organizations, governments, charities and women’s groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues.
2012 Theme: CONNECTING GIRLS, INSPIRING FUTURES
If every International Women’s Day event held in 2012 includes girls in some way, then thousands of minds will be inspired globally.
