PSC/Claresholm Student Exchange Dinner

April 18, 2012

Many of the grade 7/8′s at Paisley Central School are going to Claresholm, Alberta from April 22-28 on a school exchange. They have done many fundraisers for this event and on May 15, they are having a community fish dinner. This is the week the students from Claresholm are here in Paisley. The money raised from this event will go towards all of the trips that the students participate in while they are here in Ontario.

The fish dinner is from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, May 15.

TICKETS: Adults are $15 and children under 10 are $8. Takeout is available,  for an additional cost of just $1. If you’re interested in supporting PCS students and their exchange partners (plus enjoying a delicious meal), please phone the school at 353-5691 or get in touch with any grade 7/8 student to get your tickets. Tickets on sale until May 4th.

Thanks to Don & Karen McCullough, Rob & Gail Fullerton and Melinda Henschel for organizing this event.

Help the school get new instruments (no $$ required)

June 7, 2011

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I would like letters to be brought in by Tuesday June 21st 2011.

 Dear Community Members,

Keeping a music programme going is an expensive initiative but an important one. Within the ‘Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Science’ (CARAS) there is a group called ‘Music Counts’ and their mandate is to ‘develop new initiatives and enhance awareness of their efforts for music education in Canada. Every year they give money to schools across Canada for their Band programmes. The programme is called ‘Band Aid Grants’ and schools can receive between $5 000 and $10 000 dollars to buy new instruments and music for their school.

Last year, as a first year teacher, I was successful in obtaining a $5000 grant for Derby Public School in Kilsyth, just outside of Owen Sound. The school was then able to buy several new instruments to enhance their existing music programme.

This year I am looking forward to submitting a proposal for Paisley Central School. I believe in the importance of a strong music programme within schools and know that to obtain that we need to have reliable instruments and a variety of different instruments. There are some instruments, such as an electric guitar, that we do not have that I would like to recommend we purchase with the grant.

When applying for the grant they request an in depth look at the music programme in the school and its history. It is also asked that you make a wish list of what you would like to purchase with this money.

Another part of the grant is a collection of letters from the school board, community members, parents, students and the principal. I would like to ask for your assistance in providing letters of support as the parents and students of the school. I am looking for letters of support from the community.

Here is a little bit of background information from this past school year. All of the primary classes participated in the Grey County Kiwanis Music Festival. Awards received were: Jks – gold; Sk/1 – silver; 1 / 2 – bronze; 2/3 – bronze. The grade 7/8 class received gold; percussion ensemble – gold; and the small jazz ensemble – silver. Also this past year we had a Christmas concert and a spring showcase concert and art show. Both concerts included participation from the entire school. Also this year we had classes work with Boomwackers, bucket drumming and we started a STOMP percussion groups.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I would like letters to be brought in by Tuesday June 21st 2011.

Thank you for your support.
