Community Hours

All students in Ontario need 40 hours community hours to graduate. The Paisley and District Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping our students learn while they volunteer and have many interesting tasks lined up. The entire Chamber work is done by volunteering so we are experts in this mentoring program. Students can usually match their interest and skills to find the kind of volunteer work they would like to do. Here are some things students have done in the past. This list is certainly not all-inclusive. If there is something you see that needs to be done, by all means bring that to our attention. 519-353-6021.

  • Journalism – write for the Paisley Advocate
  • Typing – there are often jobs that are not difficult, simply time consuming – which is exactly what you need.
  • Painting – large muscle jobs or detailed work
  • Website posting
  • Designing, printing and delivering posters or flyers
  • Pulling weeds
  • Delivering Flyers
  • Making Music at events such as Late Night Shop or Farmer’s Market
  • Helping wth the Figure Skating Club (Canskate) or pick-up Hockey
  • Representing the Businesses at events such as Maple Syrup Fest or the Fall Fair
  • Dressing in Period Costume and Walking the Streets during events or on weekends in the summer
  • Be an elf in the Parade, serve hot chocolate in the Parade, make posters for the Parade.
  • Delivery of packages
  • Delivery of the Advocate
  • Fundraising (or collecting food) for the Breakfast Club or Food Bank

The list goes on. The sky is the limit. The purpose of this activity is to teach students that community vitality is dependent on our volunteer base. It also helps different generations network and provides a sense of continuance in the community. Being a volunteer gives people a sense of community and appreciation for the hard work done by others. Without volunteers our community would be a very boring place to live. We welcome all volunteers and we are especially happy to help out our students who are a valuable part of our community.
