Minutes of the Sept.26, 2017 Paisley & District Chamber of Commerce Meeting
Venue: Paisley Town Hall/Legion Time: 7:30 pm
In attendance: Dale Buhr, Jo-Anne Buhr, Mary- Gail Johnston, Marg Jones, Joyce Cradddock, Sheryl Steinhoff, Alicia Mariano, Karen Kimpel
Minutes of August 15 meeting correction: next meeting was noted as Sept. 19, corrected to Sept. 26 – Moved by Dale Buhr to accept minutes as corrected, 2nd by Jo-Anne, carried.
Bank balances – General account: $6393.93, Advocate: $5269.42, Total: $11,663.35
Revenue: 3 Members dues were paid: Riers, Midtown, and Allen’s: $450.00
Back Eddie’s paid for sweatshirts: $90.00
Dale will keep a current membership list. Businesses who paid for 2 years last year were Jo-Anne’s Window Fashions0, Elora Soap Company and Nature’s Millworks.
Old Business: The Advocate needs current information for the calendar, and their Facebook page – including sports registrations, early years @ Missionary Church, village events, etc. She will check paisleyvillage.ca for events (our community tab), and effort will be made to keep current. The Nov/Dec issues will feature Christmas shopping in Paisley, and business card-size paragraphs will list the businesses and specials for the season.
The Chamber website was discussed. Mary Gail brought up that Publisher needs to get working properly, and that we need a list of municipal contact people. We need current photos. Alicia will photograph the 5km race and Soccer Fun Night.
Alicia discussed that we need to offer more youth recreation – possibly 4H, or a split 6 weeks each of soccer and baseball.
Parade- Candace Connor & her husband want to help with the parade.
Joyce found all of the information needed, and has been working on getting the sound system and announcer.
Sheryl volunteered the choir to sing from 6:30-7:00 as previously done, in front of the Hair Garage.
Jo-Anne discussed the gingerbread & goodie bags. Approx. 175-200 treat bags were made last year.
Alicia will do crafts upstairs at the arena for kids waiting to see Santa.
The theme this year will be “Visions of Gingerbread.”
Late night shop – will be Friday,November 17th .
Alicia mentioned that the school glee club might perform.
Promotional coupon/discount cards – Karen & Mary Gail will meet to do after Thanksgiving. It was decided not to put in
all of the mailboxes, but to make a digital version available to print from the Chamber site, Facebook, and the Advocate.
Pumpkinfest – Alicia will see if Gary Mariano can wear the Saugie costume and give out promotional coupons.
New business: We discussed forming a new group to oversee all of the various committees to avoid overlap, and to determine which group is doing what.
Jo-Anne will be doing a Gingerbread workshop at the Big Dipper the first week of November, date to be confirmed. They can accommodate approx. 12 adults. There will also be a workshop for kids under 12 years old at the Legion on Sunday Nov. 5, to decorate a Christmas train made with social tea biscuits.
Sheryl discussed Welcome wagon for new residents of Paisley. We need to include info. about recreational activities, playgroup, medical services, churches, choir, businesses, etc. We need a bag to fill with coupons and objects (like a bar of soap). We will need a list of new residents from the real estate agents or municipality, and to decide how far back to go retroactively, to include the many new residents that have come this spring/summer.
