Minutes of the August 15, 2017 Paisley & District Chamber of Commerce Meeting
Venue: Paisley Town Hall/Legion Time: 7:30 pm
In attendance: Joanne Kelly, Dale Buhr, Jo-Anne Buhr, Mary- Gail Johnston, Melissa Kanmacher, Marg Jones, Joyce Cradddock
Minutes of June 20 meeting accepted – Moved by Dale Buhr, 2nd by Mary Gail Johnston, carried.
Treasurers report:
Bank balances – General account $6124.10, Advocate ?
Motion to pay for the 2 page advertisement in the Saugeen Experience Guide – the final amount has not yet been billed. The original amount quoted was $2000 + 260 HST + 2260.00. The Chamber agreed to subsidize $25 of each of the business card ads; there were 9 businesses who participated. The businesses were quoted $150 each, so 9 x 150 = 1350, leaving a balance of $910.00 payable by the Chamber. Moved by Melissa, 2nd by Jo-Anne, carried.
Karen will call to try to get more of the Experience Guides.
Bank account signing authority updates: Moved by Mary Gail, 2nd Karen that Janice Rankin, Joyce Craddock and Dale Buhr have signing authority for the Paisley Advocate bank account, carried.
Moved by Mary Gail, 2nd Joanne, that Karen Kimpel be the 3rd to have signing authority for the Chamber of Commerce bank account (Mary Gail Johnston and Dale Buhr are already), carried.
Chamber mandate and membership package: Some amendments were made to the working copy, including, as part of our mandate:
- Promoting, supporting and representing businesses located in the village of Paisley and surrounding district.
- Increasing public awareness of Paisley’s assets and events.
The benefits of becoming a Chamber member were amended to include:
- The Chamber facebook page will feature Paisley businesses and to share business posts.
- In the section regarding that businesses will receive notices of upcoming business related seminars and workshops – it was added that attendees may have some of their costs subsidized on a case by case basis.
- References by date (2017) to the Santa Claus parade were amended to “annual”.
A motion was made by Dale, 2nd by Jo-Anne to accept the membership package as amended, carried.
Mary Gail agreed to deliver the membership information to the businesses by hand, and that they may be returned, with payment, to Saugie Suds drop box, or the Elora Soap Company. Mary Gail will return to pick up any that have not been dropped off 2 weeks later.
Santa Claus parade: Mary Gail will pick up the bin/binder/information from Craig Budreau. Joyce will begin to work on the parade, and Melissa will approach Alicia Mariano to see if she will be interested in helping.
Melissa paid Morgan $60.00 + a Saugie t-shirt for dressing up as Saugie for Artists on the River. She was great, well received, and overall, it was a big hit.
Melissa has, and will keep the Saugie costume at her house.
Motion to pay Morgan/Saugie minimum wage at upcoming events, including the Fall fair, Pumpkinfest, Shoppers night, and the Santa Claus parade, made by Mary Gail, 2nd by Joanne, carried.
Karen and Mary Gail will continue to work on a coupon/discount card for Saugie to distribute at these events.
Paisley Advocate update: Joyce needs more writers! Joanne will approach Paisley Central School to try to get a dedicated article every month. Melissa will approach Cassie to try to get photos on an ongoing basis. Joyce will ask Sheryl Steinhoff to share some of the upcoming event information that she receives for her article in the Marketplace magazine.
New business: Next meeting we will discuss Welcome wagon program for new residents.
